Quality assurance scheme

Once you’ve decided to offset, you might choose to purchase a government approved offset. “Approved” carbon offsets are those that meet specific criteria set by the Governments new quality assurance scheme for carbon offsetting, and can be sold with a quality mark (below). When you see this mark you know the offset provider will:

  • Calculate your emissions accurately.

  • Sell good quality carbon credits that comply with the Kyoto Protocol and have been verified by the United Nations or EU’s emission trading scheme.

  • Cancel the credits within a year of you buying them and ensure that the same credit is not bought twice.

  • Have transparent prices for their credits.

  • Provide you with information about the role of offsetting in tackling climate change and advice on how to reduce your carbon footprint.
  •
