Once you’ve decided to offset, you might choose to purchase a government approved offset. “Approved” carbon offsets are those that meet specific criteria set by the Governments new quality assurance scheme for carbon offsetting, and can be sold with a quality mark (below). When you see this mark you know the offset provider will:

 

Calculate your emissions accurately.

Sell good quality carbon credits that comply with the Kyoto Protocol and have been verified by the United Nations or EU’s emission trading scheme.

Cancel the credits within a year of you buying them and ensure that the same credit is not bought twice.

Have transparent prices for their credits.
